The Athenaeum opened in 1930 with a grand dinner in honor of Albert Einstein’s visit to the California Institute of Technology located in the city of Pasadena, just outside Los Angeles in Southern California. Although famous for hosting the annual Rose Bowl football game and Tournament of Roses Parade, Pasadena is the home to many scientific and cultural institutions, including the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Fuller Theological Seminary, Art Center College of Design, the Pasadena Playhouse, California School of Culinary Arts, the Norton Simon Museum of Art, the Pacific Asia Museum, and the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens.
Holiday Partial service warning:
Lunch and dinner a la carte service are closed on Saturdays & Sundays, November 23 – 25 for the Thanksgiving weekend and December 23 – January 1 for Christmas.

The Athenaeum is to serve as the faculty club to promote social, cultural and intellectual exchange between faculty, staff, students and local community. Today its mission remains true to its founding and is ranked among the top Platinum Clubs in America. The Athenaeum is the setting for many career and educational interactions, fine dining opportunities, convenient overnight accommodations and as a private meeting or party venue. All guest rooms offer HDTV with cable, air conditioning, high speed internet access, laundry & dry cleaning service, cocktail lounge, tennis courts and athletic facilities, and complimentary continental breakfast on weekends and holidays.
